A Note from Amelia

This isn’t about trying harder.

You have tried. Maybe not perfectly — but you have tried. And your body still isn’t where you want it to be.

That frustration is real, and it is incredibly common among women in their late thirties, forties and fifties. Not because they lack discipline, but because something fundamental has shifted inside their body. The strategies that used to work simply do not anymore.

This guide is not about selling you anything. It is an honest explanation of what is actually happening — the hormonal changes that affect how your body stores fat, builds muscle, and responds to everything you are already doing. Once you understand that, the path forward becomes much clearer.

Section One · The Science

What’s actually happening to your body after 35

From around your mid-thirties, a cascade of hormonal changes begins that fundamentally alters how your body functions — where you store fat, how easily you build muscle, and how your metabolism runs.

Oestrogen and fat redistribution

Oestrogen directs fat towards the hips, thighs and buttocks during your reproductive years. As it declines in perimenopause and menopause, the body redirects fat storage towards the abdomen. Your weight on the scales may barely move, but your shape changes. That stubborn belly that appeared from nowhere is a direct consequence of this shift.

Progesterone, cortisol and water retention

Progesterone declines earlier than oestrogen, often from the late thirties. Combined with rising cortisol from busy lives and disrupted sleep, the result is a hormonal environment that actively encourages fat storage and water retention, particularly around the waist.

Muscle loss and a slowing metabolism

From around 35, women lose muscle mass at roughly 3 to 5 percent per decade. Less muscle means a slower resting metabolism. This is why the routine that kept your weight stable at 32 no longer works at 42.

Section Two · The Frustration

Why traditional methods stop working

The hormonal changes described above create physiological conditions that conventional diet and exercise cannot address — not because you are doing them wrong, but because they were not designed for what your body is doing now.

The calorie deficit problem

Calorie restriction in a hormonally changing body tends to result in loss of muscle mass before fat — particularly the subcutaneous fat just beneath the skin that creates dimpling and softness. This fat is particularly resistant to dietary change in the peri and postmenopausal body. This is not a motivation problem. It is a physiology problem.

The cardio plateau

The body adapts to repetitive cardio efficiently, meaning the calorie burn reduces over time as fitness improves. Even high intensity and resistance training — more effective at this life stage — have limited impact on specific hormonally driven fat deposits.

What about skin changes?

From around 40, collagen production drops by approximately one percent per year. The result is reduced firmness, increased laxity around the jaw, neck, abdomen and upper arms, and cellulite becoming more pronounced as connective tissue weakens. Exercise maintains muscle tone but cannot restore this structure. This is where non-surgical treatments become genuinely relevant.

The women who come to Truth are not people who have stopped trying. They are people whose bodies have changed in ways that require a different approach.

Section Three · The Solutions

What non-surgical body contouring actually does

These treatments address the specific physiological changes that diet and exercise cannot. Used alongside healthy habits, they can produce results that would be extremely difficult to achieve through lifestyle changes alone.

01

Radiofrequency Skin Tightening

Skin laxity · firmness · jaw · abdomen · arms

Heats deep skin layers, stimulating new collagen and elastin. Results build over 8 to 12 weeks.

02

Emtone — Cellulite & Texture

Cellulite · dimpling on thighs, buttocks, abdomen

Combines radiofrequency with targeted pressure energy. The only treatment of its kind within 25 miles of Bury St Edmunds.

03

Cryolipolysis — Fat Freezing

Stubborn localised fat resistant to diet and exercise

Controlled cooling permanently reduces fat cell numbers in the treated area over 8 to 12 weeks.

04

HIFU — Skin Lifting

Facial and body lifting · deep tissue tightening

Focused ultrasound produces a visible lifting effect developing over 2 to 6 months and lasting 12 to 18 months.

05

Lymphatic Drainage

Fluid retention · bloating · post-treatment recovery

Supports the body in clearing excess fluid and metabolic waste, and enhances results from other treatments.

Section Four · Choosing Your Path

How do you know what’s right for you?

The right approach depends on your specific concerns, your health history, and where you are in your hormonal journey. We never recommend anything before we have properly understood your situation.

Skin firmness or laxity is your main concern

Radiofrequency treatments like Exilis RF are most likely relevant. HIFU may also be appropriate depending on the areas you want to address.

Cellulite or skin texture is your main concern

Emtone is the most targeted treatment available, addressing the structural causes rather than masking the appearance.

A stubborn fat deposit is your main concern

Cryolipolysis is worth exploring if the area has been resistant to diet and exercise. A consultation will confirm suitability.

You’re experiencing bloating or fluid retention

Lymphatic drainage is often the right starting point, either standalone or alongside other treatments.

You have multiple concerns

Most women who come to Truth want to address more than one area. A bespoke combined plan typically produces the best results.
