Preparation Guide
hydration is everything
Radiofrequency works through the water content in your skin, so good hydration is the single most important thing you can do before a session. Alongside it, a few simple habits help your skin respond at its best.
3 minute readThe most important step
Hydrate Well
Radiofrequency energy travels through the water in your tissue. Well hydrated skin heats evenly and comfortably and responds far better than dehydrated skin. This is the one preparation step that genuinely changes how well your session goes.
Aim for at least 2 litres a day in the days leading up to your session, so your skin is well hydrated and ready.
Arrive having had plenty of water, not dehydrated from coffee or a long gap without drinking.
Well moisturised skin in good order responds better to gentle thermal treatments.
Caffeine and alcohol are dehydrating. Going easy on both around your appointment helps.
What to pause
Give Your Skin a Clean Slate
Stop retinol and strong active products on the area 5 to 7 days before, as these can leave skin more sensitive.
Avoid peels, microneedling or laser on the area in the 2 to 4 weeks before your session.
No tanning or fake tan on the treatment area.
Remove all metal jewellery from the area before treatment, and tell your practitioner about any metal implants, a pacemaker or other electrical device. This matters for radiofrequency safety.
On the day
Arriving Ready
Arrive with clean skin on the area. No makeup, oils, lotions or sunscreen.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing with easy access to the area being treated.
Have eaten beforehand and arrive well hydrated, so you are comfortable throughout.
Let us know about any changes to your health or medication since your consultation.
If you are perimenopausal or postmenopausal, lower oestrogen means your skin produces collagen more slowly, so results may take a little longer to show. If you are on HRT this can help. Share where you are so your practitioner can set realistic expectations and tailor your course.
The days before: hydrate well, ease off caffeine and alcohol. 5 to 7 days before: pause retinol and strong actives. On the day: well hydrated, clean skin with no products, no metal in the area, loose clothing. Hydration first, everything else second.
